A wave of high-profile fraud cases involving Democratic officials is drawing new scrutiny—but an entirely different story involving Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed may prove even more explosive.

New reporting has resurfaced federal records involving the Islamic American Relief Agency (IARA), an organization once employing El-Sayed’s biological mother, Fatten Elkomy. In 2004, the U.S. Treasury designated the worldwide IARA network under terrorism-related sanctions authorities and alleged international offices provided financial support to Osama bin Laden and other terrorist organizations.

We examine the Treasury records, DOJ prosecution history and federal court exhibit list—and separate what the documents actually prove from what they don’t.
