Saks, Lord & Taylor – April 1— hackers stole credit and debit card information of more than 5 million of it shoppers.
Under Armour – March 29 — exposed the personal data of roughly 150 million users.
Facebook – March 17 and March 18 — 50 million profiles of Facebook users were “harvested” without their consent to a consulting firm, Cambridge Analytica, that was hired by Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. Days later, Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg admitted to the leak and said that the company failed its users.
December 2017
eBay – Dec. 10 — including usernames, first and last names, and purchase history, were made available via a Google’s Shopping platform
Alteryx – Dec. 19 — not protecting the personal information of more than 120 million American households and openly harvested it on an Amazon Web Services cloud storage bucket.
Uber – Nov – personal information of more than 57 million Uber users and drivers but admitted that it chose to keep the leak a secret and pay the hackers off instead.
Forever 21 – Nov. 14 — The company said it encourages customers to keep an eye on their payment accounts and look for fraudulent charges.
Whole Foods Market – Sept. 28 — Whole Foods Market — who at the time was just recently acquired by Amazon
Sonic – Sept. 26 — “fire sale” of millions of stolen credit and debit card numbers
Equifax – Sept. 7 — 147 million consumers
Even gun rights advocates, who are afraid of government abuse, say it appears to be working.
“We’ve seen the downside of people who are distraught or crazy taking out their problems on the general public,” said Dave Workman of the Bellevue, Wash.-based Second Amendment Foundation. “We don’t want that to happen here.”
