ActBlue has just rolled out a dramatically stronger passport verification system for Americans donating from overseas—and the timing is impossible to ignore.
The change follows a congressional investigation into ActBlue’s fraud-prevention practices, a House report alleging weaknesses in previous passport verification, five witnesses invoking the Fifth Amendment 146 times during depositions, and CEO Regina Wallace-Jones later invoking the Fifth before Congress.
ActBlue strongly denies wrongdoing and says a third-party forensic review supports its position that previous safeguards worked. But with the Democratic fundraising platform now reporting more than $20 BILLION raised in its history and the midterms only weeks away, one question has become unavoidable:
