What was old is new again!  One of the Cold Wars most terrifying legendary retaliation solutions was a device called Dead Hand or Perimeter.  In the event the Russian leader was struck down Dead Hand would deal with those that did it by launching a nuclear response strike to obliterate the enemy…as it is were from the leader’s dead hand pushing the nuclear button.
