These judges were appointed over the past decade by Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and their backgrounds and rulings have sparked debate. Among them are Judge Tanya Chutkan, born in Jamaica, and Judge Amit Mehta, born in India, who both oversee major legal challenges involving Trump, including civil cases related to the January 6th attack. Other foreign-born judges include Ana Cecilia Reyes, Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali, and Sparkle Sooknanan, each of whom have been involved in decisions that have been perceived as contrary to Trump’s policies, such as blocking executive orders or restoring federal spending.
