Elon Musk is officially back in Washington’s orbit — but this time his assignment isn’t DOGE.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has tapped Musk, Palmer Luckey and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to co-lead Project Meridian, a 120-day Pentagon initiative examining the future of warfare, emerging military technologies and the capabilities America may need decades from now.
The project reportedly stretches from subterranean warfare to cislunar space and includes technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, robotics, directed energy and biotechnology. Its findings are expected to include a public report and classified annex.
Tonight we’re breaking down what Project Meridian actually is, why Musk was chosen, why critics are sounding alarms, and how this connects to the Pentagon’s new push into autonomous warfare.
